Jatinderpal Singh’s untimely death leaves a void in the world of Fine Arts

The news of the untimely death of Jatinderpal Singh Bansal, the celebrated Sikh Bhartnatyam exponent, has shocked fine art aficionados of Navi Mumbai. He is credited to be the first Sikh Bharatnatyam exponent of the country.

A resident of Nerul since 1985, the 47-year-old Bharatnatyam exponent succumbed to a heart attack at Jodhpur on July 19. His body was brought back home on July 21 for the last rites to be performed at Nerul.

Singh, the head of dance and music department of Delhi Public School, NRI Seawoods, left for Jodhpur few days back. He accompanied a team of his school students for the inter-school meet of Delhi Public Schools (DPS) being held at Jodhpur. Singh performed during the above meet also.

However, on July 19, he complained of uneasiness. The nurse at DPS, Jodhpur, who checked him, found that his BP was very low. The principal of the school rushed him to the hospital, where he succumbed to a massive heart attack.

Singh is survived by his wife Amrit Kaur, a daughter and a son.
