Akal Takht jathedar speaks out for one party
WSN Network

AMRITSAR/ANANDPUR SAHIB: In a rather peculiar statement, but in keeping with the kind that the Sikh clergymen regularly spout, the Akal Takht jathedar has said that many Sikhism-related issues are raised by the political opposition parties only when an Akali Dal government is in power.

Jathedar Gurbachan Singh, matching his words and ideas almost to those spouted very often by circle jathedars of Akali Dal, said issues like the Dera Sacha Sauda controversy, Baba Bhaniarewala’s rising and now replica of Darbar Sahib coming up in Mastuana, "come to fore only during the SAD rule in Punjab."

It is not clear why the Jathedar, whose authority extends over all Sikhs, whether in Akali Dal or Congress or apolitical, chose to align himslef with the ruling party but then many experts said the reasons are more than clear: he who pays calls the tune.

The Jathedar said the anti-panthic forces made it an agenda to defame the Akali Dal party.

“The anti-panthic use these tactics (of raising controversial issues) during the SAD regime only so as to topple the government,” he said.

Experts said the statement shows that the Akal Takht jathedar is not even taking into account that it was neither his job nor was expected of him to defend one particular political party, that too when the party itself is dumping all panthic agenda and is turning out to be an increasingly secular political force.
