Fremont Gurdwara remembers Sikh holy men with three days of tributes through Simran and Path
Satnam Singh Khalsa

Fremont: In memory of the holy Sants, the Gurdwara Fremont Sahib organized Paths of Sri Guru Granth Sahib, Sri Sukhmani Sahib and Sri Japuji Sahib for three consecutive days.

From Friday onwards, the entire atmosphere was one of absolute religiosity and spirituality.

During all of these three days, the gathering of the devout people remained busy in sewa and Simran.

Despite massive rain, the sangat came in huge numbers to pay tributes to the holy men. Among those who were remembered by the people were the birth anniversary celebrations of Nabh Kanwal Raja Sahib ji , Baba Pritam Das ji Jhingra wale, Baba Puran Das ji, Baba Bhag Singh ji, Baba Hardial Singh ji Manke Brahm Giani 108 Sant Baba Basant Singh ji, Brahm Giani 108 Sant Baba Harbhajan Singh Ji Nirmal Kutia Johlan, Baba Pele ji, Sant Baba Hari Singh ji Kaharpur Wale and 20th century’s great Sikh martyr Sant Baba Jarnail Singh ji.

Many great ballad singers of the Panth , kirtani jathas, kavishars also participated.

Many well-known enterprising people in the California area, including the owner of the Raja Sweets, Giani Ravinder Singh, Makhan Singh Bains, Mehfil Restaurant’s Satnam Singh Bal, Tejpal Singh and Gopal Singh and Harpal Singh contributed with material and time.

Many Sikh men and women hailing from different villages in Punjab had reached this gurdwara in the United States to participate in the function.  The devotees had come from far and wide from various cities of the US.

S Devinder Singh said these holy men have played significant role in changing the very way of life, the development of infrastructure as well as human resources in these villages of Punjab in India. Not only did this spread the word of the Guru, but they also paid necessary attention to education facilities in the region, the job opportunities, the well-being of the youth, and and the related aspects of life.

S. Joga Singh Heera and S Harjit Singh Josh said that Brahm Giani Sant Baba Basant Singh ji, Baba Gian  Singh ji, Baba Harbhajan Singh ji Nirmal Kuttia Johlanawale spread the word of Sikhism in villages far and wide. It is because of these good men that the region is free of fraudster babas and self-styled holy men.

They said that the people in the region are indebted to these holy men for the many good turns that they have done otherwise the SGPC is completely abdicated its duties and responsibilities and is missing from the scene.

The politicisation of the SGPC and the internal fighting among the Akali Dal ranks is largely responsible for the rise of the fraudster self-styled dera culture in Punjab. The money that is given by the people were religious ventures and which you go for promotion of larger societal goals is usurped by this kind of dera culture.
