Namdharis demand probe into death of leader
WSN Networks

New Delhi: The Namdhari sect has asked the Government of India to set up a Commission of Inquiry to probe how their legendary leader Ram Singh, considered "satguru" by the sect members, died. Such a panel was earlier set up to probe into Subhash Chandra Bose’s death.

The sect leadership made the demand when Prime Minister Manmohan Singh unveiled a portrait of the late leader in the Central Hall of Parliament.

Ram Singh was exiled to Rangoon in Burma from 1872 to 1880 but there are claims that he sent messages long after that. He was declared dead in 1885 but there are claims of there being documents in national archives that prove that even beyond 1885, he was in a jail in Myanmar.

The namdhari sect has been demanding a probe into his last days.
