Ludhiana/Mansa/Bathinda:
In a clear sign that the Badal Government was more interested in
keeping dera babas on its side for electoral benefits and less
bothered with Sikh sentiments, Punjab Police last week arrested
chairman of Akali Dal (Panch Pardhani)) presidium, Bhai Daljit Singh
Bittu, near the Jalandhar bypass after Sikh activists had declared
they will be meeting to seek ways of ending Sirsa dera's activities.
Bhai Daljit
Singh, along with youth wing incharge Mandhir Singh, driver
Palwinder Singh Shatrana and gunman Ranbir Singh Goh, were taken
into custody as a part of so-called "preventive arrests" by police
on Friday in various parts of the state.
Police also
arrested around 100 party workers and various district heads of the
party, mainly from Mansa and Bathinda districts.
These arrests
were made following a call of the party presidium for a gathering at
Gurdwara Zafarnama in Dialpura in Bathinda to chalk out a plan for
closure of Dera Sacha Sauda premises at Salabatpura, which is about
four kilometres from this gurdwara.
Bhai Daljit
Singh was expected to reach Dialpura on Friday morning, where an
akhand path commenced.
A local court
has sent Bhai Daljit Singh and others to judicial custody till
December 26.
Jaspal Singh
Manjhpur, spokesperson of the party, said: “These arrests took place
at 9 am
morning. However, we have been directed by the party high command to
go ahead with the programme as scheduled.”
Police has
not been anyone to reach Dialpura Bhaika without strict checking.
