Comrades' cry goes shrill: Let's
kill them all!
WSN Network
Less
than a week after Indian Prime Minister declare dthat his country
was losing the war against Maoist insurgents, the real Red region is
spilling unprecdented blood.
After months in
retreat, the CPM cadres hit back at Maoists in Lalgarh, killing
several Naxals in retaliation after coming under fire 15 km outside
Midnapore town on Monday evening. CPM leaders openly said they were
on the offensive at the directive of the party and Indian Express
quoted one by name saying the operation was being controlled from
Alimuddin Street,
the Bengal CPM headquarters in Kolkata.
Score seemed to
have been killed on both sides but no reliable figures could be had.
Media reports in India spoke of some 15 deaths in the gunbattle that
began after 50-odd Naxals attacked the CPM local committee office at
Manidaha near Enayatpur village.

THE WSN VIEW
When it comes to the Sikhs, the Indian Government and police are
quick to pounce upon youth and term them as "terrorist" when all
they do is to wear a T-shirt with Sant Bhindranwale's picture on
it, but in West Bengal, when ruling party cadre kills poor
tribals in the name of fighting Naxals, the Indian state closes
its eyes and goes deaf and dumb. The bloody fights being fought
from CPM offices are a prime example of terrorism against the
poor with the help of the state. |

West Bengal CM
Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee had gone to Alimuddin Street to monitor the
situation. DGP Bhupinder Singh said he was aware of the clash, and
the fact that some people have died. A Maoist leader named Vikas
sent text messages to journalists claiming at least 7 CPM cadres had
been killed.
This is the second
time in three days that the CPM has hit back at the Maoists. They
have set up a People’s Resistance Committee, whose members lynched
suspected Maoist Swadesh Hembrom in Goalpara Friday.
The Maoists have
killed nearly 60 CPM supporters in the last three months. Recently,
a school teacher was gunned down in front of children from Classes 2
to 4.
CPM leaders like
minister Susanta Ghosh have urged cadres to retaliate without
depending on police. He reportedly exhorted a public meeting near
Garbeta last week to hit back violently at the Maoists.
