Scot Scouts visit
Sikh Gurdwara

DUNDEE: As part of their World Faiths badge, the Carnoustie Cubs
recently visited and toured the Sikh Gurdwara in Dundee, one of the
only six Sikh Gurdwaras in Scotland, with the others being in
Glasgow and Edinburgh.
The Cubs were given a talk on the essential elements of Sikhism and
shown the care taken and the respect given to their book of
scriptures, Guru Granth Sahib.
They learned that the key beliefs of Sikhism of honesty, hard work,
keeping God in their hearts and minds, treating everyone with
respect and thinking of others were common traits with their own
religion.
These characteristics are also reflected in their Cub Scout law and
promise.
After a tour around the Gurdwara, the Cubs tried a sweet Punjab
treat made from oats and honey before enjoying a more familiar snack
of juice, crisps and biscuits!
The Cubs certainly enjoyed the opportunity to learn about a religion
other than their own.
The following weekend both packs of Carnoustie Cubs, along with
their friends took part in the annual Cub Crombie Challenge 2008 at
Crombie Country Park.
Teams of four took part in various activities scattered around the
park and competed to win a trophy.
Activities included relay games, an assault course, raft building,
pond dipping and a tree identification base run by the Country Park
Rangers. This year's event was blessed with glorious weather and all
the boys and girls thoroughly enjoyed themselves.
The day concluded with hot dogs and the presentation of the trophy
to the winning 'Coolsters' team of Josh Bullock, Jamie Fyfe, Fergus
Brand and Jamie Brown.
