Association (YCWA) Mombasa Branch Chairperson, Mrs. Hellen Anayu,

children would be enrolled in other schools.
“We are waiting
for a word from the Government and keep on trusting in God that
peace will return to our country”, she said. The YCWA Centre in
Likoni has been hosting 50 children who are part of 100 displaced
families in the post election skirmishes. Women and children stay in
the centre while men only, come for meals and take shelter
elsewhere. The centre manager, Mrs. Joyce Salanu, said volunteer
teachers have been offering lessons to the pupils in one of the
halls since Monday.
Mrs. Salanu,
however, said learning was not adequate due to lack of teaching
materials. “What we are doing now is to keep the children busy but
for real learning they must go to school”, she said.
