Protect Sikhs: SGPC to Pak
WSN Network

AMRITSAR: A seven-member delegation led by SGPC president Avtar Singh Makkar submitted a memorandum at the Pakistan High Commission office in New Delhi on Monday, seeking immediate steps to safeguard the rights of the Sikh minority community and properties attached to their shrines in Pakistan.

The delegation has also sought an appointment with Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh to brief him about the new potential threats to Sikhs and their religious places in the neighbouring country.

The SGPC delegation wanted the Pakistan government to punish those who had chopped off the hair of Sikh advocate Anoop Singh by leveling 'false' allegations of adultery on him.

Fearing further victimisation, Anoop Singh and his family have taken asylum in Gurdwara Panja Sahib.

The delegation also sought cancellation of notifications by which 307 kanal and 860-kanal land of two gurdwaras was given to the army without themanagements' consent.
