Scholar angry as babus plan to
shift Sikh manuscripts to Beant museum
WSN Network
CHANDIGARH: In a
move aimed at provoking the Sikhs, the Chandigarh Administration is
trying to transfer invaluable manuscripts and hand-written birs of
Sri Guru Granth Sahib, entrusted for custody by Dr Man Singh
Nirankari to the administration, to the Beant Singh Memorial Centre
raised in the memory of the late Chief Minister who was better known
for presiding over killings of hundreds of Sikh youth in fake
encounters.
Dr Nirankari has
expressed strong rage at the development and has told the
administration in no uncertain terms that if it cannot take care of
the manuscripts and birs, these be returned to him immediately. Dr
Nirankari, now 96, said he can never allow such manuscripts to be
kept at a memorial which has been raised to commemorate a human
rights violator who in the eyes of many Sikh organizations was a
clearly controversial man. Dr Madanjit Kaur has also protested the
administration move.
