Violence hits Maharashtra as Raj is arrested
WSN Network

MUMBAI: It is easy to blast Raj Thackeray’s outbursts and the violence against innocent Biharis in Maharashtra, just as Raj is turning the debate into simplistic regional chauvinism terms and demanding that jobs in Maharashtra should go to Maharasthra people. The calls to Marathi pride may cut ice emotionally but the events of the last few weeks have shown that any skewed progress models will open up conflict zones.

After Raj’s goonda brigade attacked job-seekers from Bihar who were waiting at the platform

for an interview a few hours away, Lalu Yadav called him a mental case and India’s soul keepers woke  from their deep slumber anddemanded action. Promptly a court issued the arrest warrants,

his arrest was followed by violence outside the Bandra court which sent him to two-week judicial custody.

Reports from across Mumbai spoke of voluntary bandh at many places. Angry activists of the MNS came out on the streets after the arrest and attacked several taxis and autorickshaws. Raj Thackeray was arrested for Sunday’s brutal attack on north Indian railway exam candidates by MNS workers.

“Arrest me and be ready to bear the consequences.... You will have to regret,” Raj Thackeray, had earlier said hours before cops landed up.
