Racing against train, three
friends crushed to death
WSN Network
LUDHIANA:
In a rather reckless and peculiar tragedy that perhaps says much for
aberrations in youth behaviour, three friends in
Ludhiana
had themselves run over by a train on a bet on Friday night.
The three, slinking
away from home at night, went to a railway track to see who would
run in front of a train the longest before jumping away.
Unfortunately, they all held out just a little longer than they
should have. Run over, two died on the spot, while the third was
taken to hospital. He died soon after telling the tale.
The incident that
killed Kala (15), Lalu (16) and Anees (16) took place near Sunet
village on the outskirts of Ludhiana. While Kala and Lalu died on
the spot, Anees breathed his last at Ludhiana Civil Hospital.
Kala and Lalu --
working as daily-wage labourers -- were residents of Threeke village
while Anees, a tailor, was from Sunet.
All three left
their homes late on Friday night. While Kala scaled the wall, Anees
slipped out without telling anyone. Lalu told his family he was
going for a night shift. They gathered at the track near Sunet to
see who was the fastest, with a train behind them. Sadly, none could
outrun the train.
Anees' family
learnt of the incident around
7.30 am on Saturday. The Railway Police had found Anees critically
injured on the spot. He was taken to the hospital, but didn't live
long. It is suspected the three would have been hit by a goods train
that passed on that line at night.
