Time to rise against anti-Sikh
forces says Harinder Singh Khalsa Vaisakhi celebrated with
traditional fervour at Gurdwara Fremont

FREMONT: The
birth anniversary of the Khalsa Panth-Vaisakhi was celebrated with
piety and religious fervour by the Sikh Sangat at Gurdwara Sahib
Fremont on 14th and 17th April 2009. It was also an opportunity for
the Sangat to pay tributes to the martyrs of April 1978. After the
Bhog of Akhand Path Sahib, there was a Nagar Kirtan in which hundred
participated amidst the chant of Waheguru and Bole So Nihal-Sat Sri
Akal. Culminating in the Diwan where Kirtani Jathas, Kavishri Jathas
and other speakers held discourses on issues concerning religion and
the present state of affairs of the Sikh nation. Baba Balwinder
Singh of Nanaksar Kurali also performed Kirtan on the occasion.
Speaking at the
function, former diplomat and Member Parliament, Harinder Singh
Norway disclosed that when the Indian government had attacked Darbar
Sahib and other Gurdwaras in June 1984, non-Sikh officers working
with him were rejoicing and spewing venom against the Sikh people.
He said that their utterances had a serious impact on him and he
decided to quit his service as an Indian diplomat. Expressing his
pain, he pointed out that he burnt all his hard-earned university
degrees and preferred to work in a restaurant washing dishes rather
than compromise on ethics and serve the Indian government.
Talking about
the present Punjab political scene, Harinder Singh Khalsa said that
the Badal leadership was undermining Hukamnamas of the Akal Takht
and continuing to have association with anti-Sikh forces and
political organizations.
The Prabhandhak
Committee of Gurdwara Sahib Fremont honoured Harinder Singh Khalsa
with a Saropa. Sikh Sangat was served Langar of various varieties at
the Sant Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale Langar Hall by a large number of
selfless volunteers.
The President of
Gurdwara Fremont, Harjot Singh Khalsa apprised the Sangat of the
“Gurbani Is Jag Meh Chanan” programme to be held in the Gurdwara
Sahib from 15th May onwards. A similar programme would also be held
from 5 June to 7 June to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the
Saka Akal Takht. He further said that a string of Akhand Paths will
be held from 19-21 June 2009 in the memory of martyrs of 1984 and
the martyrdom day of Guru Arjan Dev Ji.
The entire
programme was broadcast live on Radio Geet Sangeet.
