Sedition charges against Dal
Khalsa activists quashed

Chandigarh: The
Punjab and Haryana High Court on Tuesday quashed sediton charges
against 19 Dal Khalsa activists in an almost four year old case.
Counsel for the
petitioners Advocate Navkiran Singh said that Justice Shri Arvind
Kumar quashed the sedition charges against all Dal Khalsa members
under section 153-B, 124-A, 120-B.
The Amritsar
session court had framed charges against 19 activists of the Dal
Khalsa including its president Harcharanjit Singh Dhami under
various charges, including sedition, for hoisting what they referred
to as the "Sarkar-e-Khalsa Flag" on 26 Jan 2005. The case was
registered at Police Station Islamabad in Amritsar.
Amritsar
District Additional Session Judge Hemant Gopal framed charges
against 19 activists under 153-B, 124-A, 336 IPC and 27/54/59 Arms
Act in April this year. All the accused are on bail. The next date
of hearing in the case was fixed for 9th November 2009.
Kanwarpal Singh,
party spokesperson, said while 10 top leaders were named, the FIR
mentioned 25 "unidentified" persons. The name of known Khalistani
ideologue, Jagjit Singh Chauhan, was also mentioned in the case but
in the meantime he died on April 4, 2007.
Kanwarpal said
the function was organized, to "salute the Sikh Flag for keeping
alive the memory and dedication of all martyrs who laid down their
lives to protect the Sikh faith and people."
He further
stated that this order should serve as a warning to the police
administration as well as the state executive, which keeps on
foisting illegal cases on those Sikhs who hold independent thoughts
and beliefs.
Among those
against whom charges have been quashed are: H. S. Dhami, Satnam
Singh Paonta Sahib, Kanwarpal Singh, Sarabjit Singh Ghuman, Balraj
Singh Bhalaipur, Dr Manjinder Singh, Kuldeep Singh, Arpal Singh,
Baldev Singh, Sukhdev Singh, Arjan Singh, Gurdeep Singh, Giani Amrik
Singh, Sukhdev Singh, Sarwan Singh and Avtar Singh.
