Musicologist comes out with Complete 31 Raagas of Sri Guru Granth
Sahib On One Album

World renowned scholar and kirtankar Sikh musicologist Dr. Gurnam
Singh has compiled complete 31 Raagas of Sri Guru Granth Sahib in
his melodious voice with the pure music of string instruments.
Currently a Dean in the Faculty of Arts and Culture at Punjabi
University, Patiala, Dr Gurnam SIngh has spread the word about Sikh
musicology during his various stints as a Visiting Scholar in many
foreign universities and has been intrumental in establishment of
Gurmat Sangeet Departments and Chairs at international level.
The recording of
complete 31 Raagas of Sri Guru Granth Sahib sung and composed by Dr.
Gurnam Singh was released by SGPC president Avtar Singh Makkar
during Raag Darbar at Manji Sahib Hall on the occasion of Gurpurab
of Sri Guru Ramdas ji. This recording includes one Shabad in every
Raag of Sri Guru Granth Sahib sung along with string instruments.
The project has been produced by Fine Touch Company.
Makkar
appreciated Dr. Gurnam Singh for his commendable contribution in the
field of Gurmat Sangeet. Bibi Jasbir Kaur Khalsa, Chairperson of Sri
Guru Gian Parkash Foundation, New Delhi termed the recording as a
milestone in the field of Gurmat Sangeet.
Dr. Gurnam Singh
is known for reviving the String Instruments tradition and also has
published 13 books and many other prestigious recordings in the
field of Gurmat Sangeet.
Recording namely
Sri Guru Granth Sahib Raag Darshan includes Bani of Sri Guru Nanak
Dev ji, Guru Amardas ji, Guru Ramdas ji, Guru Arjun Dev ji, Guru
Tegh Bahadur ji, Shekh Farid ji, Bhagat Bhikhan ji, Bhagat Namdev ji
and Bhagat Kabir ji recited by Dr. Gurnam Singh and one Booklet is
also prepared along with the recording that mentions the whole
information of 31 Raagas both in English and Punjabi.
