Gatka competition held with fanfare In Ludhiana
Ludhiana: With over 40 teams participating from all over the
country and two from Malaysia and Singapore, an international-level
Gatka competition was organized by the newly set-up Khalsa Martial
Arts Academy on 11 May 2008. As many as 12 women’s teams
participated in the event.

The top Gatka masters were Bhupinder
Singh of Sahibzada Ajit Singh Akhada from Paonta Sahib, Gurpreet
Singh from Shaheed Baba Deep Singh Akhada from Chandigarh, Bibi
Lakhwinder Kaur of Mata Sahib Kaur Girls College, Bathinda.
The organiser of the meet Paramjit Singh Khalsa said that "ours is
an attempt to revive the dying martial arts of the Sikhs. We propose
to hold this competition annually and also impart training from
experts to young Sikh boys and girls."
