National swimming coach Sucha Singh
Sandhu retires

PATIALA: After a
meritorious service for nearly 35 years to the sports fraternity,
famous swimming coach Sucha Singh Sandhu retired recently. Sucha
Singh Sandhu has been instrumental in not only coaching swimming
enthusiasts, but also enabling hundreds to become swimming coaches,
many of whom are now earning a living as coaches and have built a
reputation for themselves in many parts of the world.
Sucha Singh Sandhu, Mahinder Singh Sandhu and Amarjit Singh
Sandhu are three such sports personalities who went out of the way
to spend money from their own pocket to nurture talent amongst less
privileged sports students.
Sucha Singh Sandhu obtained his diploma from
Patiala and then
went on to Germany for an advanced diploma.
A large number of sports personalities, particularly those
who enjoy swimming have greeted Sucha Singh on his retirement.
Gurcharanjit Singh Chann (Coach), Ashok Kumar (N.I.S.), Jaspreet
Singh (S.P. Punjab Police), Dharampal Tokas (D.I.G.), Veerpal Singh
Canada, Jasvir Singh USA, Jasjeet Singh USA, Bhupinder Gill USA,
Harinder Gogri (Coach), Karam Singh (Coach), Bachiar Singh (N.I.S.),
Keshav USA and Rakesh Kumar USA, not only greeted Sucha Singh but
all were unanimous that, “Sucha Singh was not only a coach to us but
was like our father, like our elder brother and a close friend who
guided us in thick and thin”.
