protest against changes in calendar
WSN Network
Ludhiana:
Defying completely the SGPC orders and the attempts by the ruling
Akali Dal to browbeat the clergy into diluting the Nanakshahi
Calendar, most panthic forces are enraged over the issue of
changesand criticised the amendments made by the SGPC executive
committee. At a meeting in
Ludhiana
last week, they resolved to protest till the SGPC revokes its
decision. At a convention organised by the Dal Khalsa, SAD (Panch
Pardhani), DSGMC, Shiromani Khalsa Panchayat, Shiromani Panthic
Council, Akal Federation, Sikh Students’ Federation, Sikh Youth of
Punjab, among others, leaders voiced their concern over the
amalgamation of the Nanakshahi calendar with Bikrami calendar and
rejected the amendments.
A resolution was
also passed, urging the Akal Takht jathedar to suspend the
implementation of the changed version of the calendar. The speakers
warned the SGPC and the SAD-Badal leadership against trying to
trigger conflict within the community.
They resolved to
convene a Sikh Conclave on March 14 to mark the first day of the New
Year as per the Nanakshahi calendar.
