Rex versus Singh
WSN Bureau
VANCOUVER:
Whether one likes them or not, whether one approves them or not, the
queer community is here to stay. Particularly in Canada whose
liberal policies of individuality are zooming high.
This week the
Vancouver Queer Film Festival celebrated 20 years of existence and
as many as 114 films are to be screened from 14 August to 24 August
at various cinemas across the city. The film festival is one of the
main events of Out On Screen and is called the Out on Screen’s Queer
History Project.
Among the 114 films,
there will be the world premiere of Rex vs. Singh, about two Sikh
mill-workers, entrapped by undercover police agents and then put on
trial for sodomy less than a year after the infamous Kamagata Maru
incident of 1914. The film is a collaborative work by John Greyson,
Richard Fung and Ali Kazimi, and is the project's second
commissioned film.
