Sikh Diaspora denounces Lamba’s move
WSN Network

Los Angles: A number of Sikh organizations in a joint statement have declared that the summons issued to Prof. Darshan Singh Ragi by the Akal Takht should be reconsidered. The Coalition of Gurdwaras of California, Sikhs for Preservation of Sikhism and Sikh Heritage, and American Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee have unanimously condemned Gurcharanjit Singh Lamba for triggering the controversy about Dasam Granth on an American TV channel JUS Punjabi.

Lamba, while addressing the issue of Dasam Granth, incorrectly projected Prof. Darshan Singh’s views and tried to project as if it was Prof Darshan Singh who was making up a story about the tenth Sikh Master's  association with rather shady lady when, instead, Prof Darshan Singh was merely trying to stress how concocted and blasphemous were some of the stories being peddled by advocates of Dasam Granth.

Several Sikh organizations have strongly criticized such divisive move by the Indian American media.

Speaking on the issues the spokespersons of the Coalition and the watchdog group said they had previously endorsed a statement that “Sikhism is an integrated religion with unity of Sikh thought between the first through the tenth Guru. The tenth Guru, Guru Gobind Singh Ji, sanctified only one Granth which is Sri Guru Granth Sahib. Compositions of Guru Gobind Singh Ji, as accepted in Sikh Rahat Maryada are final …and authenticity of the published Dasam Granth compiled and based upon Sodhak Committee Report 1897, needs a thorough and independent inquiry by Panthic scholars of all shades and by a committee under the guidance of Shiromani Gurudwara Prabandhak Committee and Akal Takht as soon as possible.”

They further added that there is substantial evidence that the Dasam Granth was planted in Punjab by the British, in the 18th century, to divide the Sikhs and their psyche.. Unfortunately, the idea of the British, according to them, is now being exploited by Rashtriya Sikh Sangat under the supervision of Rashtriya Swamsewak Sangh, sponsorers of renegades -- Dr. Jodh Singh, Mr. Harpal Pannu, and Mr. Gurcharanjit Lamba -- who endorse Dasam Granth against the wishes of Sikhs.

The Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht had on June 6th 2008 had already passed the gurmata. In obedience of Guru Gobind Singh Ji's last command "Accept Granth As Guru. This is my order for the Panth," the Sikh Panth has always stood by it and has been consistently blessed with guidance by the living Light, eternal Guru for the solution of every national crisis.

The current controversy about the Dasam Granth is totally uncalled for. No one has any right to create controversy about the specific writings contained in Dasam Granth that have been recognized and accepted by the Sikh Panth through the Sikh Code of Conduct, prescribed recitation in daily prayer and Sikh baptismal (Khandey De Pahul). Be it known to the entire Sikh Panth that Sri Dasam Granth is an integral part of Sikh literature and history but, Guru Gobind Singh Ji did not recognize it equal to Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji. Since, he bestowed Guruship only on Sri Guru Granth Sahib, therefore, no other Granth can be installed along with Sri Guru Granth Sahib".

Sikhs, they said, believe in only One Granth, Guru Granth Sahib Ji, One Panth and One Maryada.
