Punjab to have institute for
Punjabi language
WSN Network
PATIALA: Punjab will
soon have a National Institute of Punjabi Language, Literature and
Culture at Patiala that will incorporate the already existing
Languages Department. This new institute will have a Director
General to head it and he will enjoy the powers of a Vice
Chancellor.
CM Parkash Singh
Badal has already approved the file. Major focus of the new
institute will be to make available Punjabi translations of texts
from various streams of humanities, sciences, medicine and
professional courses.
After seeking
approval from the state Cabinet, the government will give final
shape to the contours of the institute with the help of the Union
government.
The institute would
be responsible for the holistic development of the Punjabi language,
literature and culture. It would also modernise the state university
textbook board.
An advisory
committee to guide the institute would have writers, academicians,
educationists and government officials. The Education Minister would
be the ex-officio chairperson and the institute director general
would be the secretary of this committee that would approve and
monitor its programmes.
