Indian state reserves one-third of the bus seats for women
WSN Network

SHIMLA: Most Americans are used to a few seats reserved for senior citizens in local buses but in India's northern hill state of Himachal Pradesh, the provincial government has issued orders for reserving at least one-third of the seats in all buses for women. All Regional Transport Officers have been tasked with ensuring implementation of the orders and bus conductors would be held responsible in case of non-compliance. The drivers strictly restrict themselves to driving in India, and the ticket dispensing and collecting money are tasks handled by another on-board employee called "conductor" in Indian buses.
