over Damdama Sahib

SABO: Within days of the Gurta Gaddi celebrations getting over, a
new controversy has come to light. In some ways it is a pretty old
one, but the issue was raised again during the celebrations. The
jathedars of Takht Hazoor Sahib and Takht Patna Sahib jave made
clear that they do not consider Damdama Sahib as a takht.
Takht Damdama
Sahib Jathedar Balwant Singh Nandgarh has said that heads of Takht
Hazoor Sahib and Takht Patna Sahib have created this problem and he
intends to raise the issue with the top clergy at Akal Takht. and
ask it to bar the two Takhts' representation in clergy.
Circulating a
pamphlet related to the Guruta Gaddi Diwas celebrations in Nanded,
which read that Takht Hazoor Sahib was "supreme of the four takhts
of Sikhs", Nanadgarh said it was issued by Nanded Waghala City
Municipal Corporation.
The Centre had
declared Damdama Sahib as the fifth takht in 1999 formally though
the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) had recognised
Damdama Sahib as a takht in 1966 itself.
It was at
Damdama Sahib that Guru Gobind Singh prepared the full version of
Guru Granth Sahib in 1705. "Heads of the Hazoor Sahib and Patna
Sahib have not only targeted Damdama Sahib, but also challenged the
supremacy of the Akal Takht, when they claimed that Hazoor Sahib was
supreme," fumed Nandgarh.
Pakistan
Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee head Bishan Singh, who visited
Talwandi Sabo to pay obeisance along with his family members, was
equally vocal on the issue.
Takht Patna
Sahib Jathedar Giani Iqbal Singh said Damdama Sahib was not approved
as a takht by the takhts outside
Punjab. He said
all the four takhts were equal and no one was supreme.
Akal Takht chief
Giani Gurbachan Singh said Takht Damdama Sahib does not need
permission from any individual for its existence.
