CHANDIGARH:
After two witnesses decided to depose against him for his alleged
involvement in 1984 anti-Sikh riot cases, there is more trouble for
Congress leader Jagdish Tytler. Now, a US report has referred to his
role.
The US department of
state, in its recently released "Country reports on Human Rights
Practices-2007" has taken note of Tytler’s alleged involvement in
riots, while talking of India's track record in safeguarding human
rights.
The report, released
by the Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights, and Labour on March 11,
2008 states: "In November a key witness in a 1984 anti-Sikh riots
case involving senior Congress leader Jagdish Tytler resurfaced two
months after the CBI declared that he was unreachable.
In December, a Delhi
court ordered the CBI to reinvestigate the 1984 riots case and file
a fresh report. The witness in question — Jasbir Singh-had asked CBI
to come to USA and take his statement. Navkiran Singh of Lawyers for
Human Rights International, who is Jasbir's lawyer too, welcomed the
development.
