Gurcharan Singh and Pritpal Singh Khalsa participated in the session
which was also attended by representatives from Kashmir and Assam
and also Christians from Orissa.
The session was chaired by Mr. Charles Graves of the UN Human Rights
Council.
The speakers highlighted violation of human rights of minorities,
carnage of Sikhs in 1984 in
Delhi and those of Muslims in 2002 in
Gujarat.
The complicity of the state in masterminding such massacres was also
elaborated with graphic details by Ranjit Singh Sra who led the
dissertation.
The Sikh representatives rued the fact that Sikhs and Jains were
being treated as Hindus and though the customary laws of the
majority community have been codified, the minorities are forced to
adopt those laws, such as the Hindu Marriage Act, Hindu Succession
Act, Hindu Adoption and Maintenance Act.
