NetworkAMRITSAR: A landmark deal with a
private company for setting up an international airport at Mohali
would be the New Year’s gift to the people of Punjab, claimed
cabinet minister Bikramjit Singh Majithia while talking to the media
after launching a direct chartered flight from Amritsar to Italy on
Sunday.
He said an aviation club would be set up at
Talwandi Sabo besides upgrading the flying clubs of Amritsar,
Ludhiana and Patiala. He said there was a need for a pilot training
institute because of the increasing demand for pilots. The Punjab
government is in the process of acquiring 45 acres of land for
extension of the Rajasansi international airport.
Majithia said a large number of Punjabis had gone
to Italy and a direct flight from Amritsar would prove to be very
useful for them. The private airlines would operate a chartered
flight from the Rajasansi international airport with 225 passengers
every Sunday.
