Sikh girl among
Slough's citizens of the year

SLOUGH: A dedicated
Sikh teenager from Slough has been given recognition for her
volunteer work in the community.
Priya Kaur Bilkhu,
17, of Buttermere Avenue, was presented with the Young Citizen of
the Year Award at the annual Mayor’s Awards for giving up her time
to community projects including the West Wing Arts Centre and Aik
Saath Conflict Resolution Group.
The Burnham Upper
School pupil said: “I am really happy to have been given this award.
It came as a surprise when I was announced as the winner and I was
happy just to be nominated. I have enjoyed my time volunteering and
have learned a lot of new skills that I can take with me later in
life.”
Les Collins and
Tony Atkins shared the Citizen of the Year Award, sponsored by the
Rotary Club of Slough. Collins won the award for his committment to
cleaning up woodlands and greens with the Evergreen 2000 Trust.
Atkins was acknowledged for his dedicated work to the Slough Sea
Cadets for more than 25 years.
The winners were
presented with their awards by
Slough mayor Raja Zarait at town hall on Wednesday last week.
