WSN Network
Rashtriya
Sikh Sangat (RSS) Punjab chief Rulda Singh, 62, who was shot at
outside his Patiala residence by two unidentified motorcycle-borne
assailants on July 29 last, died at PGI, Chandigarh, on Friday
night. He was cremated on Sunday.
Rulda Singh had
received five bullets in his abdomen and forehead. His condition was
deteriorating continuously and was put on life support system.
Doctors attending to Rulda Singh said from the last few days he had
stopped responding to artificial support system.
He is survived
by his wife, two sons and a daughter.
Rulda Singh was
close to top BJP leaders, including L.K. Advani, and was made head
of BJP's NRI wing in Punjab during the NDA regime at the Centre.
Rulda Singh settled down as arhtiya in the New Grain Market on the
Sirhind road here about two decades back.
He headed many
tours to foreign countries to bring back Sikhs who figure on black
list of the home ministry. Rulda Singh, who did a course from
Damdami Taksal, joined the RSS in 1976 and starting taking active
part in its activities.
Many Sikh bodies
had serious differences with his approach towards the Sikh issues
and the formation of the Rashtriya Sikh Sangat itself was seen as a
treacherous plan of the Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh to interfere in
the affairs of the Sikhs, confuse the sangat, pose as being Sikh or
pro-Sikh and damage Sikhi from within.
Rulda Singh had,
sometime ago, invited SGPC and head priests to the RSS conclave in
Bhopal, which was not taken well by SGPC and other Sikh bodies.
Police is
working to get sketches of the alleged attackers made on the basis
of details given by NRI Dalbir Kaur and Rulda Singh’s family
members. Rulda had dropped Dalbir Kaur at Ragho Majra in the evening
before he was attacked.
