Mission College
Admission comes to the aid of the Sikh youth
WSN Network
FREMONT:
Mission: College Admission (MCA), an initiative aimed at helping the
Sikh children attain higher education and increase success rate has
brought to the community an awareness event titled The Importance of
a College Education. With the punchline that "College has become the
new high school", the volunteers will be having an interaction with
interested participants at Sant Jarnail Singh Ji Hall at the
Gurdwara Sahib, Fremont on Saturday, August 29, 2009 between 5.30 pm
to 7.30 pm. Parents of school-aged are encouraged to attend.
The current
educational outlook for the Sikh community is devastatingly bleak: a
crisis is besetting our community. Our Sikh children are not
succeeding in their secondary-level education and those who are
graduating from high school are not making it to college.
The effects on
their futures, families, and the community are countless and
catastrophic. Without a doubt, parents play an instrumental role in
the academic success of their children. As such, Mission: College
Admission (MCA), an organization working to increase enrollment of
Sikh students in higher education institutions, invites parents and
community members to hear more about the Sikh Education Crisis and
how and what we can do as a community to motivate and propel our
children to academic success!
