BJP: A squabble in every nook
WSN Network
New Delhi/Jaipur:
This was an ugly fight fought in full view and under the gaze of
24x7 news TV cameras. A core group of the BJP led by party president
Rajnath Singh asked Rajasthan BJP legislature party leader
Vasundhara Raje to quit. She instead sent a horde of MLAs, 57 of the
78 BJP MLAs, to Delhi for a support parade.
It couldn't have
gone uglier.
But then a face
saving formula was found.
Now, the BJP
parliamentary board has asked Vasundhara Raje to quit but has not
specified any time limit for her to resign. BJP president Rajnath
Singh said the “parliamentary board met to endorse the decision of
the core group where a decision on a change of guard in Rajasthan
was taken”.
In the party core
group meeting, it was decided, however, that the timing of the move
would be discussed among the party brass, and that a couple of
observers would be sent to the state before Vasundhara is finally
told to quit. There is now talk of giving a key organisational
responsibility in the central BJP to Raje.
In a unilateral
move last week, Rajnath Singh called up Vasundhara and asked her to
put in her papers. Rajnath supporters argued that “he was forced to
call her after she didn’t show up in Delhi as was originally
planned”.
In a damage control
move, Raje also made conciliatory noises even though it was clear
that she has snubbed the high command.
