Pattern continues: Now, 2 arrested and termed Babbar Khalsa
WSN Network

RUPNAGAR: In an exercise that has now come to have a set pattern of police claims becoming staple media news, the Punjab Police working directly under Sukhbir Singh Badal who holds the Home Department, has now claimed it has arrested two people who were alleged to be Babbar Khalsa cadres.

Police claimed the two were building network and ranks by taking on fresh recruits to revive militancy in the state, a claim that the police has made in hundreds of cases in the last few years and which keep falling apart in courts of law. The prime aim behind such cases often seems to be harassment of youth.

Harminder Singh of Cherrian village and Balwinder Singh `Binder' from Dekwala were arrested and police claimed that a car, a .32 bore revolver, ten live cartridges and explosive material were seized. The two were booked under sections 16, 17, 18-B and 20 of Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act and sections 25, 54, 59 of Arms Act and sections 3/4/5 of Explosives Act.

Being involved in a plot to kill Bhaniara baba seems to be an allegation that is favorite of police. In tens of cases, it has been made against people arrested from various parts. For this duo too, it was thrown in for good measure along side RDX, arms, dacoity etc.

Police claimed that they were working under the guidance of Baljit Singh `Bhau', presently lodged in Tihar Jail. The main grudge of the police seems to be that the duo were were working for Bhau's release in court cases against him.

To add strength to its claim, the police also claimed that the arrested duo were part of a plot to kill the controversial Bhaniarewala baba. For good measure, the cops also threw in an abortive bank dacoity at Nangal.

SSP LK Yadav claimed Balwinder had sent RDX in the form of sweets (burfi) to Burail jail in 1997, on the instructions of Jagtar Singh Tara, an accused in the assassination of late chief minister Beant Singh. An AK47, a pistol and a large quantity of explosive material were recovered from him in 1998, Yadav added. Both are in police custody.

Is getting posters of Sant printed a crime?

SAMANA: Arrested for their alleged involvement in a conspiracy to murder Dera Sirsa's fraudster head Gurmeet Ram Rahim, Akali Dal (Amritsar) youh wing leader Bhai Bageecha Singh Waraich, Amarjit Singh Marori and Gobind Kaur case took a new turn when the public prosecutor revealed that permission to proceed under Section 153-A has been sought from the central government but it has still not been received.

Thus, the sole witness in the case could not depose. The court of SDJM Kuldip Singh then fixed the next date of hearing as December 18. The three, Waraich, Marori and Gobind Kaur were present alongwith their counsels. Police has also alleged that Bhai Waraich and his associates had gotten printed posters of Sant Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale from a printing press of Patiala. The witness was from the printing press.

Bhai Bageecha Singh told the media people present in the court that the Punjab Government was guilty of creating tensions by allowing the Nam-charchas of Sirsa sadh.
