Gadkari tipped to be BJP president as RSS micro manages BJP
WSN Network

NAGPUR: At a time when the RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat is talking of possibly changing the khaki knicker uniform, Nitin Gadkari cuts an ungainly figure in his khaki half-pants, his bulk making the outfit look even more archaic and ill-fitting.

But it seems this Maharashtra BJP chief who is among the jet set crowd and works out from his airconditioned office, knows how wearing the khaki half pants pays, particularly at the time of vaccum in the party.

Along with Narendra Modi, who has the additional tag of being anti-Muslim and the luggage of presiding over the massacre of Muslims in Gujarat, Gadkari is now in the front race for BJP presidentship.

Mohan Bhagwat seems to have handpicked the 52-year-old who is also close to RSS headquarters, even literally as he lives a stone's throw away in the city's Mahal area.

Gadkari will be beating Sushma Swaraj, Arun Jaitley, M Venkaiah Naidu and Ananth Kumar and will try to benefit from the Delhi outsider tag. But his stint will only see more RSS cloud over the BJP.

His five years as head of BJP in Maharashtra have not been scintillating with the alliance with Shiv Sena hitting a record low ahead of this year's national elections and the more recent reverses the partners faced in state polls. After 10 years in power, Congress surged back to power despite providing pretty average governance.

Gadkari will be beating Sushma Swaraj, Arun Jaitley, M Venkaiah Naidu and Ananth Kumar and will try to benefit from the Delhi outsider tag. But his stint will only see more RSS cloud over the BJP.

Bhagwat has made little effort to hide his disdain for any BJP leader, including veteran L K Advani's views on the BJP's presidentship. RSS seems set for micro-management of the BJP and in Bhagwat's words may do "surgery or chemotherapy" to set things right. Some see it as possibly the continuation towards a more hardliner stance of Hindutva and Bhagwat's agenda of making entire India Sangh-mayee, whatever that means.
