ACTION REPLAY: Officer bullied,
another assaulted by MLA's men
WSN Network
AMRITSAR: In a
shocking incident that reminded many of the beating of a tehsildar
in Ludhiana by a close associate of Deputy CM Sukhbir Singh Badal,
supporters of ruling Akali Dal MLA Malkiat Singh led by his son
Gagandeep allegedly created terror at the office of Jandiala Guru
Block Development and Panchayat Officer (BDPO) Rasal Singh last
Monday, assaulting his superintendent Sukhraj Singh and forcing the
BDPO not to attend his duty.
A scared Rasal
Singh faxed distress SOS messages to the Punjab and Haryana High
Court, Rural Development and Panchayats Minister Ranjit Singh
Brahampura and the department secretary, seeking security due to
threat perceptions to his life.
The BDPO made it
clear that he would not be able to discharge his duties unless
provided adequate security cover. Rasal Singh's two complaints said
since he "refused to relent before MLA Malkiat Singh for unlawful
favours, he got my office at Jandiala Guru seized by goons."
"Fearing threat
to my life, I remained away from office. MLA's son Gagandeep, Block
Samiti vice-chairman Sakattar Singh, Naunihal Singh and others
attacked my office superintendent Sukhraj Singh, who saved his life
by fleeing," said Rasal Singh.
Significantly,
the MLA has now accused Minister Brahampura saying he should not
have appointed an officer who refused to listen to the MLA.
Brahampura retorted that the MLA does need not suggest to him whom
to appoint.
