Unique Punjabi teaching programme
‘Sojhi’ launched
WSN Bureau
FREMONT: In a
concerned and well thought of move to impart Punjabi language skills
to students from Grade 1 to Grade 8, Harinder Singh, the young
director of the Sikh Institute of Research, Texas held a day long
awareness programme at Gurdwara Fremont last Friday. Using modern
presentation techniques the young scholar elaborated the use of a
complete syllabus in the presence of the children and their parents.
Stressing upon
the need for a policy, programme and methodology, Harinder Singh
emphasised the means of affiliating oneself with Gurbani and Sikh
heritage. He further said that the faculty of ‘Sojhi’ also has to
undergo a rigorous training programme so that everyone strictly
follows the syllabi. “It is a weekly programme of not more than 4
hours so that children and parents can realign themselves with
Sikhism and be proud of their rich legacy” said Harinder Singh. He
further said that Sikh values, Sikh philosophy and Sikh principles
would occupy top priority in the curricullum.
As this
programme is to be launched in the Khalsa School Fremont from this
year, parents and teachers were quiet inquisitive and asked
searching questions to Harinder Singh. He pointed out that ‘Sojhi’
was on in more than 30 Khalsa Schools and that efforts were on to
start a programme for parents too.
