Sikh volunteers
bring respite to many sun-hit passers by
WSN Network
VISAKHAPATNAM: In a
loving written report from Vizag city, journalist Nivedita Ganguly
wrote in India's leading English daily 'The Hindu' how scores of
weary travellers came in for a pleasant surprise at the busy
Gurudwara Junction on Monday when the volunteers of Gurudwara Sadh
Sanghat offered glasses of chilled rose milk and handful of
‘prasadam’ to the passers-by.
"From drivers of RTC
buses and trucks to pedestrians and motorists, it was a good respite
for all on the sultry afternoon as they gulped down glasses of
chilled rose milk and profusely thanked the volunteers for the
thoughtful gesture."
The Sikhs were
commemorating the 402nd martyrdom day of the fifth Guru, Guru Arjan
Dev Ji. Over 1,000 glasses of rose milk was distributed from 10 a.m.
till 12 noon and there was demand for more. The programme was
conducted on Sunday and Monday and saw the active participation of
ladies, children and men of hundreds of Sikh families who turned up
to offer their services on the occasion. Apart from this, the
‘akhand paath’, was also held at the Gurudwara.
