PM’s friend
returns with memories to cherish
WSN Network
Amritsar: Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh’s childhood friend Ali
Mohammad, who had arrived from Pakistan to meet his “Mohna” two
weeks back, has returned home with memories to cherish. He said he
was nervous while waiting to meet the Prime Minister last week in
Delhi, but was amazed that the PM recognised him immediately and
locked him in a tight embrace.
“It was the
opportunity of a lifetime to see my childhood friend, who is a big
man now. I am happy that he is considered the most honest and
professional political leader in this country,” he said, adding that
he would like to meet the PM again and had invited Manmohan Singh to
visit his ancestral village Gah in Pakistani Punjab.
Ali ended his
three-week-long visit on Monday and said the meeting with “Mohna”
was a walk down memory lane as they recalled the days when both of
them played on the village streets and did household chores
together. “At the PM house, I had to keep waiting for about half an
hour to meet Manmohan Singh and these were anxious moments. Then he
arrived and we met as old friends. We talked to each other for 45
minutes, which will remain the most memorable moments in my life,”
he said, adding that Manmohan Singh asked about other old friends.
However, Ali said he
was leaving with a heavy heart as he might not be able to meet Mohna
again, being at the fag end of his life.
