Pak govt says Haveli connected with Guru will be handed over to Sikhs
WSN Network

AMRITSAR/LAHORE: Drenched in the spirit of religiosity, the Sikh sangat across the world observed the Martyrdom Day Gurpurab of the fifth Sikh master, Guru Arjan Dev Ji, marking it with traditional chabeels, langar and, of course, umpteen kirtan darbars.

At Gurdwara Dehra Sahib, Lahore, where a jatha of Sikh pilgrims had gone to observe the day, many speakers at the gurdwara impressed upon the Pakistan government to hand over the Lal Haveli in the city to the Sikh community to be developed as a great historical heritage of the world. It was here that unspeakable torture was meted out to the Guru who remained steadfast and sacrificed his life.

Significantly, Pakistan Evacuee and Wakf Board chairman Mohd Ali Khan assured the sangat that the Pakistan Government will soon take steps to hand over the Haveli to the Sikh community.

He also informed the sangat about the Pakistan government's venture of having already started construction of a road from Gurdwara Kartarpur Sahib till the Indian border. American Gurdwara Prabandhak Commitee's coordinator Dr Pritpal Singh, A. Avtar Singh from UK, Pakistan Sikh Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee chief S. Sham Singh and Bhai Mardana Society's S. Sohan Singh also addressed the sangat. A seminar was also held at S. Dial Singh Memorial Library Hall.

The day in many cities, towns and villages around the globe was preceded by long winded and colorful Sikh parades called Nagar Kirtans. But what made it really special this year was a well organised blood donation drive in the western countries by the community.
