Fremont Gurdwara donates $50,000
to city for installing light

members of Gurdwara Sahib, Fremont handed over a $50,000 cheque to
the City of
Fremont
for installing the light at
Mission/Gurdwara
Rd. Many top officials of the City of Fremont, including the chief
of the police force, senior citizens of the community and Sikh
leaders were present at the Gurdwara Sahib during the function where
the cheque was handed over. on February 12. Talks had been on for
the last one and a half year with officials of the
Fremont
city and after several meetings, the amount was reduced from $90,000
to $50,000. The light will be installed by March-end. The rest of
the expenditure to the tune of $650,000 will be borne by City of
Fremont
and other departments.
Harjot Singh
Khalsa, president of the Gurdwara Sahib said it will benefit not
only our members but 300 of our neighbors too.
Installation of
a traffic signal at the intersection of
Gurdwara Road
and Mission Boulevard would enhance safety of vehicle turning
movements in and out of Gurdwara Road and permit a safe crossing of
Mission Boulevard for pedestrians.
Two weeks ago
Fremont Gurdwara Sahib members donated $ 16,000 to Bush Clinton
Haiti relief Fund.
He said the work
on remodelling of gurughar langars will begin within ten days. For
