Badal gets candid but will he
consume food for thought?

BATHINDA: In a
rare moment of candidness, and in remarks that reflect more on his
own administration than on anything else, Punjab Chief Minister
Prakash Singh Badal has admitted that under his watch, the state has
become notorious for producing spurious eatables.
"In fact, it can
win gold medal in making spurious items like khoya, milk and ghee,"
Badal said while inaugurating a four-day "Arogya Sehat Mela", a fair
for alternative medicines, at
Government
Rajindra
College
here last Friday.
Badal said the
fair would promote and propagate the strength and potential of the
Indian system of medicines.
Giving a call to
launch a mass movement against adulteration and drug addiction,
Badal said: "It is unfortunate that
Punjab
has become notorious for producing spurious eatables."
The state of the
affairs is known only too well to the general public but the
problem's real root cause lies with the politicians who are
notorious for pressurising the police and other authorities to let
go of the few who are caught. On top of that, large scale illegality
in Punjab is almost impossible to carry out except active help of
police, politicians and, given the current dispensation, a
percentage of the share going all the way up.
