SGPC may have office, bir
printing facility in Canada
WSN Network
AMRITSAR: In a
sign that the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) is
desirous of keeping pace with the changing global realities, it is
studying the feasibility of starting printing of holy birs of Guru
Granth Sahib ji in Canada and at other centres in the world.
Transportation
of the birs from Amritsar to destinations abroad has often courted
controversies as even the devout Sikhs have at times slipped up in
observing the maryada, some SGPC officials feel.
They said an
office of the SGPC in Canada or in US will greatly help in
coordinating.
SGPC general
secretary Sukhdev Singh Bhaur was in
Canada
to study the feasibility of opening an office there.
Sources said
Surrey, having a sizeable Sikh population, could be a natural choice
for opening an SGPC office and printing facility. A resolution for
this has been passed in the SGPC executive and sent to Akal Takht
secretariat for approval.
Sources said the
SGPC would need 10 acres of land for starting the office and
printing facilities in Canada where there are 235 gurdwaras.
