Daljit Singh takes Badal to task
on Saini issue
WSN Network
CHANDIGARH:
Reacting sharply to the stay granted by the Supreme Court of India
staying all proceedings against Sumedh Saini on a review petition by
the Punjab government against the Punjab and Haryana High Court
order for his trial, the chairperson of the Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar)
Panch Pardhani has severely criticized the Badal government for
subverting the cause of justice.
In a hard
hitting statement released to the media here, Daljit Singh Bitto
said that the Punjab and Haryana High Court order in the case of
involuntary disappearance of Balwant Singh Multani and Bulwant Singh
Bhullar had rekindled a ray of hope for families of victims of human
rights abuse, but bypassing all Panthic and Sikh interests and the
spirit of justice, the Badal Dal's appeal seeking stay on
proceedings against the tainted police officer is a clear indicator
of the anti-Sikh role of the present government. He rued that with
this step the possibility of obtaining justice from Indian courts
had further receded.
It is disgusting
to note that perpetrators are lurking around and get full state
protection whereas the victims are either languishing in prisons or
their families are awaiting those who have gone missing.
He further said
that this is not a new step. Throughout his political career, Badal
has pursued petty personal interests and protected those who have
violated the personal freedoms of individuals and the Sikhs as a
people. He pointed that Badal had suppressed the Tiwari Report in
the Kaonke case, he had provided succour and relief to those police
personnel who were languishing in prisons by not terminating them
inspite of their conviction; Badal had not initiated any proceedings
against erring and guilty police personnel inspite of his electoral
promises and had been instrumental in winding up of the People's
Commission.
In one of his
most scathing attacks against the Punjab chief minister, Bhai Daljit
Singh chided the Badal Dal-BJP government for compromising Sikh
interests and creating a set of circumstances which allows a reign
of terror and human rights abuse let loose on innocent Sikhs.
