BC lawmaker says
create investment climate

BATHINDA:
Three time member of the legislative assembly of
British Columbia
in Canada - from the Panorama Ridge constituency - Jagroop Singh
Brar stresses the need for making the business environment in
Punjab
attractive for NRI investment by removing bureaucratic hurdles.
Visiting his native village Deon, 20 km from here on the Muktsar
road, last Friday, he said dollars reached wherever the conditions
were congenial. Political and bureaucratic hurdles had slowed the
pace of development, he added.
"If you can
remove the irritants that keep the NRI business community away, the
country would grow much faster, especially its villages," he said.
NRPs, who loved
the state, were ready to invest in health and education
infrastructure for the needy, but they wanted foolproof assurance
they would not face trouble in the process. "We would like to invest
in Punjab
but the dollar goes only where there is peace, prosperity and
opportunity, where there is skill and talent to be exploited and
used," Brar said.
He said that the
Central and Punjab governments should give top priority to improving
the standard of schooling so as to produce a skilled workforce,
which would be the country's greatest asset. The curriculums too
should be industry driven. Citing surveys, he said at least 14 crore
skilled Indian work force could be absorbed by the global market in
the coming years. "But this unique opportunity would need an
education revolution," he said, stressing the need to involve the
youth in the policy-making.
The main NRI
concerns were protection of their assets in
Punjab
-- land, property, bank deposits, shares, etc., said the Canadian
MLA.
