Stuck in Spain because of Indian
apathy
WSN Network
JALANDHAR:
Former Union minister and Lok Bhalai Party chief Balwant Singh
Ramoowalia has claimed that thousands of Indian youth were living in
Spain in miserable conditions as the Indian authorities were
dilly-dallying on their applications for police clearance
certificate (PCC).
For getting
regular immigration in Spain, all immigrants have to submit the PCC
authenticated and issued by the national police agency of the
respective country. Although other countries of the sub-continent,
including Pakistan, were issuing necessary documents to its
citizens, the Indian government was yet to take any decision in this
regard.
Ramoowalia said
if the Indian authorities concerned did not do the needful, around
4,000 to 5,000 Indian nationals residing in Spain would not get
regular immigration and could face deportation. Many of them are
from Punjab.
He said another
grave problem being faced by scores of Indian nationals residing in
developed countries is the non-issuance of passports by Indian
missions on the ground that they had once applied for asylum. He
said the issue needed humanitarian consideration, while appealing to
the government to grant passports, even of limited validity, to
enable these Indians to return and visit their families back home.
