Over 130 drink themselves to
death in Gujarat
WSN Network
Ahmedabad: In
India's Gujarat state where mass killer Narendra Modi of BJP is a
big champion of protecting "Gandhian ideal" of prohibition, more
than 130 people died after consuming locally brewed liquor, the n'th
such tragedy in the state, but instead of coming down with the full
force of law, Modi said nothing much will change and the policy will
continue.
He happily
quoted the Directive Principles of Indian Constitution to say that
the State was under obligation to push for prohibition but did not
say why Gujarat was selected and why doesn't BJP want such Gandhian
values in other states ruled by it, at least, but the bigger
question is why the BJP only selects this particular half-Article in
the Directive Principles and what about ensuring the security,
security of citizens? Surely, the Constituion can be interpreted in
such a constipated manner!
On the ground,
prohibition laws apart, liquor is widely sold and bought and brewed
blatantly with the cops making money from the entire scenario. In
fact, in Gujarat, it is easier to buy liquor that sells for Rs 10
potlis, the plastic bags, and many deatsh from hooch go unreported.
There is no
serious deterrence to stop brewing and trafficking, and womenfolk
are involved in a bog way, a comment on the limited oppportunities
made available by the state, something that perhaps is not covered
under the Directive Principles that Modi is so fond of quoting.
