Hillary visit India from July 17
US
Secretary of State Hillary Clinton will kickstart her much
anticipated five-day visit to India from Mumbai from July 17. In
what could be a reaffirmation of the US’s support to India in its
fight against terrorism, Clinton will stay at the Taj Mahal Hotel,
which was one of the places targeted by terrorists during the 26/11
Mumbai attacks.
Clinton will fly
into Mumbai in a special military aircraft. According to the final
itinerary — subject to last minute changes — prepared by US
officials in consultation with their Indian counterparts, Clinton
and her delegation of top US officials will land in Mumbai at around
9 p.m.
After her
arrival, Clinton, who last visited India as the US first lady when
husband Bill Clinton was the president, will on July 18 attend a
commemoration event at the Taj Executive Office followed by a
meeting with business leaders hosted by Ratan Tata, chairman, Tata
group who owns the hotel.
Clinton’s next
stop will be an event organised by the Self Employed Women’s
Association, followed by lunch at Kebab Stand, visit to the St.
Xavier’s College and then a special event that will also be attended
by film star Aamir Khan.
She arrives in
Delhi on Sunday post noon. At 1.30 p.m., she is scheduled to attend
a Delhi climate change event at ITC Green Building. She’ll also
attend an agriculture event at Pusa institute in central Delhi.
Political
business will be handled on July 19. The day, however, will begin
with a visit to Delhi University. From there, Clinton will leave for
Hyderabad House for talks with Indian officials. Later in the day,
she will call on Leader of Opposition L.K. Advani, Congress
president Sonia Gandhi and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh (in that
order).
She concludes
her visit, which could see India allotting two sites for nuclear
parks to American companies to build nuclear reactors, on Tuesday.
