Hawara's associates free as
police case turns out a bundle of lies
WSN Network
FATEHGARH SAHIB:
Here are men who India's police had claimed had confessed to murder,
planned to kill top Congress leader Bhajan Lal and possibly had
worse designs. Now, the cases against them have been thrown out and
it is clear that the police were spinning lies, concocting theories
and violating human rights wholesale. Even after the verdict, tat
too from a court, there is not even an iota of worry for the cops
who know they won't even have to face a departmental inquiry over
the expose.
In two separate
cases, the court of the Additional Sessions Judge acquitted
so-called accomplices of Babbar Khalsa International India chief
Jagtar Singh Hawara. They were booked at Sirhind and Bassi Pathana
police stations but the court acquitted them as the prosecution
failed to prove the allegations in both cases.
In one case, the
police also claimed the involvement of Hawara, presently lodged at
Burail Jail, Chandigarh. Punjab police cop Gurmeet Singh Pinky, who
is himself lodged in jail in a murder case, had handled both cases
as the CIA staff in-charge, Sirhind.
A case was
registered at Bassi Pathana police station against Hawara, Inderjit
Singh, a resident of Barmalipur village (Payal), Jogadass and Samir
for the murder of a Chuni-based quack, Jasbir Singh, a resident of
Basia Vaidwan village. Initially, the police had registered a case
against unidentified persons for the murder on September 30, 2004.
A false case was
registered against Karamjit Singh and Gurdeep Singh, but later,
after an inquiry by the then AIG, Crime, which was done on the
directions of the Punjab Human Rights Commission, Surinder Singh and
Jaspal Singh were booked. After Hawara’s arrest, the Chandigarh
police had claimed that he had confessed that Jasbir was murdered by
him and his accomplices Jogadass, alias Joga, and Samir, alias Toni,
for allegedly giving information regarding their activities to the
police.
In the second
case, the Sirhind police, on July 16, 2005, had booked Inderjit
Singh of Barmalipur village in Ludhiana district, Amandeep Singh of
Lapran village in Ludhiana district, and Randhir Singh, alias Dhira,
of Khant village in the district, under Sections 25, 54 and 59 of
the Arms Act and under Sections 3, 4 and 5 of the Explosive
Substance Act
As per the
police, the then Sub-Inspector Gurmeet Singh Pinky had intercepted a
car at Madhopur Chowk, Sirhind, on July 16, 2005. The car occupants,
Inderjit Singh, Randhir Singh and Amandeep Singh, were nabbed with
an AK-47 assault rifle, cartridges and two handgrenades.
It was claimed
by the police at that time that Inderjit had confessed to the murder
of quack Jasbir Singh, while Randhir had planned to kill former
Haryana Chief Minister Bhajan Lal at a rally in Hisar by planting
bombs.
