Capt Kanwaljit Singh's son gets
Akali ticket
WSN Network
CHANDIGARH:
After much suspense and keeping him hanging, the Akali Dal finally
declared Jasjit Singh Bunny, son of late Capt Kanwaljit Singh, as
the party candidate for the August 13 Banur byelection.
Sukhbir Singh
Badal, the Akali Dal president, will be himself contesting from
Jalalabad while Sewa Singh Sekhwan will be fighting from Kahnuwan
seat.
The Banur bypoll
was necessitated by the death in a road accident of four-time MLA
Capt Kanwaljit Singh. Bunny would face Deepinder Singh Dhillon of
the Congress, a first-timer and close associate of Union Minister
and Patiala MP Preneet Kaur.
The Akali Dal
wanted to give the ticket to Bunny's mother Sarabjeet Kaur but the
family insisted on the ticket to Bunny. It was this insistence that
delayed the nomination.
The Badals were
unhappy with Bunny as he had let them down during the bhog of his
father when he had announced his intention to fight against Akali
candidate for Lok Sabha Prem Singh Chandumajra. Bunny later did a
U-turn but somehow never found that level of acceptance again.
