Rahul Gandhi visit further charges Bathinda contest
WSN Network

CHANDIGARH: In a strange election mix in Punjab, the highly emotive Jagdish Tytler-Sajjan Kumar row galvanised the people, embarrassed the Congress but yet did not seem to be favouring the Akali Dal. The Congress seemed to be enjoying a clear edge in Punjab even as the Badals remained locked-in in Bathinda where Sukhbir's wife Harsimrat's contest against Amarinder's son Raninder has become too prestigious for both sides.

On Tuesday, Rahul Gandhi's visit to Talwandi Sabo charged the atmosphere and poster boy Manmohan Singh was used to the fullest to nullify Sikh anger. "Manmohan Singhji is the pride of Punjab, the pride of the Sikhs, the pride of India. In the last five years he has shown how India can progress," Rahul Gandhi said.

A "turbaned" Rahul paid obeisance at Takht Damdama Sahib, and mingled with the devotees before introducing five young candidates — Raninder (Bathinda), Vijay Inder Singla (Sangrur), Ravneet Bittu (Anandpur Sahib), Manish Tewari (Ludhiana) and Sukhwinder Singh Danny (Faridkot).

Apart from touching on his anti-Advani stance and calling the Akali Dal-BJP government as corrupt, Rahul shied away from engaging with Punjab issues and played it safe.
