Lal Singh is Punjab Cong chief
WSN Network
CHANDIGARH:
Congress chose the much tainted Lal Singh, at one time a subject of
Lok Pal probe for corruption, as its working president for
Punjab replacing Mohinder Singh Kaypee till the end of the Lok
Sabha elections.
The arrangement was termed temporary in view of the
fact that Mohinder Singh Kaypee, the incumbent working chief, is
himself contesting from Jalandhar. Interestingly, Lal Singh assumed
office as soon as he was informed on phone, admitting that written
orders were still awaited. Congress in Punjab does not have a full
time president since Rajinder Kaur Bhattal was asked to step down,
and a leadership tussle between her and Amarinder Singh has gone on
for too long now.
Experts see Lal Singh's elevation as a result of
his patching up ties with Amarinder once again.
