Bradford Sikhs recall the Khalsa
spirit
WSN Network
BRADFORD: The Sikh
community in Bradford joined with members of their faith from across
the world at the weekend to celebrate the most important day of the
Sikh year. A guard of honour carrying swords led the procession as
it visited Sikh gurdwaras across
Bradford after starting from Guru Nanak Sikh Gurdwara, off
Wakefield Road.
The celebrations saw 3,000 people take to the streets in
colourful garments for the procession. Sikhs from across
West Yorkshire
congregated in Bradford to celebrate the day, which is traditionally
held on April 14, but was held on Sunday this year in Bradford to
minimise disruption.
Second generation British Sikhs in Bradford started a free
one-day course on the core concepts of the Sikh faith in 2007 to
help Sikhs who have missed opportunities to explore their spiritual
heritage. The course has proved popular and has toured several
cities around the
UK. Organisers of
this year’s Vaisakhi celebrations decided to host The Sikh Course
for everyone in Bradford.
